Rooted Medicine Circle FAQ

How long will I have access to the course?

You have lifetime access to the course site. In addition, all materials can be downloaded.

I'm grateful that I will continue to have access to the course materials & videos once the circle closes so that I can continue to learn with it slowly. I find the videos & materials and all the wisdom and knowledge really really perfect for my learning needs.”
– Maria

When are classes held?

Medicine making circles take place once or twice a month. Q&As and online meetups each take place once a month. Most events are held on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon (Pacific time).

The exact schedule is posted in the course.

We record all of the medicine-making sessions and Q&As so that you can watch them at a time that is convenient for you.

“Honestly, Rooted Medicine Circle exceeded my expectations. I was concerned about my ability to participate fully and sustain it for 10 months. The pacing of the course allowed for time to study each lesson, prepare for it and then either participate live, or, when life got in the way, to watch the recorded session.
– Kelli Belvin

“I've missed a few live circles because of [the time difference] but I'm very grateful for the recordings which allows me to catch up at a more convenient time. The Q&A's and community forum have allowed me to ask any questions that I wanted to so I don't feel as though I've missed anything.
– Julie H.

What if I can't make the live sessions?

We encourage you to join the classes live as we want to get to know you and how we can best support you in your journey, but the reality is many of our students don’t attend live.

And that’s fine!

You have lifetime access to the course and recordings, so don’t miss out if you can’t commit to joining live.

“I appreciate the medicine making classes being recorded. When I couldn't attend a live class, I always felt comfortable that I would have access to it. The pacing of the course was very well thought out. I never felt overwhelmed.”
– Irelia Ozaeta

“I like that recordings are available for when issues/family obligations come up and live is not an option. I like being able to see the other people's questions and answers after the fact. I also like being able to use the community forum to ask my questions for when I was not able to attend live. I appreciate that I have the opportunity to still participate in the class on my own time.
– Jodi S.

As someone who is not always able to participate live, I truly appreciate the recorded sessions. Additionally, I find the recordings extremely helpful when I go back to make one of the preparations.”
– Robinn

Can I receive a certificate for the course?

Yes! We offer a certificate upon successful completion of the course. Once you get access to the course site, be sure to look at the Certificate Path section for details.

I've especially enjoyed the certificate path option. I wanted to try it to help keep me on track - but based on my previous experience with an herbal course, I feared I wouldn't make it. I can't believe I'm on the module 5 review and finishing up my capstone project!”

What if I don't want to wildcraft, forage, or grow herbs?

Rooted Medicine Circle will help you to harvest and grow plants ethically and sustainably. However, foraging and gardening are not required or even expected.

Even when buying herbs, we want to ensure that the plants are tended, harvested, and processed in loving and regenerative ways. We will offer guidance so that you can procure herbs that are vibrant and sustainably harvested.

Rooted Medicine Circle students also receive discounts on herbs and medicine-making supplies including 15% discount at Banyan Botanicals, 10% discount at Mountain Rose Herbs, and 15% discount at Oregon’s Wild Harvest.

Are the plants in the course relevant to where I live?

We intentionally focus on common plants that grow in a variety of locations and/or are readily available from grocery stores and apothecaries. Many of these plants will grow near you; however some may not.

We’ll suggest substitutions or recommend where you may be able to buy the herbs you need. If you’re interested in harvesting your own plants, we also highly recommend getting a plant field guide for your area.

Herbal monographs and recipes in the course include the following plants: apple, bee balm, blackberry, burdock, calendula, chamomile, cherry, chickweed, chicory, citrus, cleavers, comfrey, cottonwood, dandelion, echinacea, elder, elecampane, evergreen conifers, garlic, ginger, goldenrod, hawthorn, horsetail, lamb's quarters, lavender, lemon balm, linden, mallow, maypop, mint, mullein, nettle, oats, Oregon grape, peach, plantain, pomegranate, prickly pear, purslane, raspberry, red clover, rose, rosemary, sage, self-heal, St. John's wort, tulsi, violet, wild lettuce, wild mustard, willow, yarrow, yellow dock

Access to these herbs is not required to participate in the course, and you’re welcome to work with other plants that you have available and that spark your interest. We’re also happy to suggest substitutions as needed.

“I must say I was extremely impressed by the encouragement to branch out creatively into personal interest during the medicine making classes. This helped spark confidence within myself to act outside the box, and this made learning a more personal journey.”
– Sarah Starr

Is this course suitable for me if I live outside of the United States or Northern Hemisphere?

Yes! We designed this course to help you connect to the natural world around you, whether you live in the Southern or Northern Hemisphere or an urban, suburban, or rural environment.

In addition to students from all over North America, we have had many people join us from Australia, New Zealand, Europe, the UK, Asia, Central America, and South America.

What supplies do I need for the course?

Most of the tools necessary for this course can already be found in your kitchen. It is our goal to keep extra costs low.

The money you spend on herbs depends on how many you want to buy. We recommend you buy small quantities of herbs to avoid expense and waste.

Students get a 15% discount at Banyan Botanicals, 10% discount at Mountain Rose Herbs, and 15% discount at Oregon’s Wild Harvest.

How much time does this course take?

We expect this course to take 1–3 hours a week. We know many people are busy, and with that in mind, we have intentionally organized the course in a way that is not overwhelming.

However, you will get the most out of this course if you consistently devote time to it every week.

“If your concern is whether or not you have time to attend the class, know that the pacing of the class is extremely well-thought out and allows plenty of time between live sessions to prepare, catch-up, or keep up. There is some kind of interaction nearly weekly, but many are optional for those who have the interest and time …. This is hands down the best course I have taken because of the live sessions, the access to the teachers and RMC support staff and the overall positive, supportive environment."
– Kelli Belvin

“I appreciated the flexibility to be as involved as I could or wanted to be and that I was encouraged not pushed to participate in things and I never felt guilty. I was free to learn and grow at my pace right now where I am in my life. Thank you!”
– Cheree
